Many people are seeking to join the trades and it is not without reason. Finding work as a plumber, electrician, carpenter, painter, welder, or construction craft person is not incredibly difficult. There is huge demand for these people and in response the government and trade organizations have setup a number of programs to aid those who are interested.

Employment Ontario – Trades
Want to work in the skilled trades? Employment Ontario has services right across Ontario that can help you become an apprentice. This site will help you learn what is means to become an apprentice, the various apprenticeship options that exist, learn more about career and trade certification, and find a career in the trades.
Ontario Colleges - Plumbing
Here is a great resource for plumbing programs in Ontario. Supplied by OntarioColleges.ca, it lists all of the available plumbing programs in Ontario, where they are located, their availability (open or not), the program length, and start date. It also provides an easy to access link to their website for those who are interested to learn more about their plumbing education programs.
Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
This is a webpage supplied by the Government of Canada providing a wealth of knowledge on apprenticeship incentive grant (AIG) program.
“The Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG) is a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year, up to a maximum of $2,000 per person, available to registered apprentices once they have successfully finished their first or second year/level (or equivalent) of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades.” – Apprenticeship Incentive Grant webpage
Needless to say, anyone interested in pursuing a career in a Red Seal trade (of which plumbing qualifies) could use some extra cash in their pocket.
